Carsten Regild
Swedish-Danish artist, graphic designer, writer, and filmmaker (1941–1992)
Carsten Regild (September 25, 1941 – March 3, 1992) was a Swedish-Danish artist, graphic designer, writer, and filmmaker born in Copenhagen and active primarily in Stockholm. His multidisciplinary work spanned drawings, collages, paintings, films, and music, often blending graphic precision with symbolic and surrealist elements. He co-founded the stencil periodical Kulturmagasinet Vargen and Vargens Publishing Firm in 1973, contributing significantly to the Swedish art scene.
Regild’s art is characterized by a strong graphic style influenced by advertising, pop art, Dada, and surrealism. He created recurring icons such as "Vargen"—a noir-style figure in a coat and hat—and a black light bulb that became a logo for Bo Cavefors Publishers. Major exhibitions include Nekropolis at Moderna Museet (1972) and retrospectives at Kulturhuset (1990) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts (2006).
He also worked in film and television, contributing as a writer, director, and actor, notably in Konst är dyrare än korv (1980) and the series Lorry (1989). In music, he released the collective album Voice Of The Wolf (1975) with artists like Pugh Rogefeldt and Åke Hodell.
